Beginning of February was Stockholm’s turn to host the yearly furniture and design fair. And I would say this fair is a great design fair on the level of Milano for sure. And here are a few hot shots!
The most interesting and fun part of these design fairs is the part dedicated to independent designers and students where you find a lot of prototypes like the Salone Satellite in Milano.
Clara Sjodin an Architecture student came up with this really fun idea for a lamp in shape of a shoe. Look closely at the packaging it comes in a shoe box of course (I think I would use that for displaying the lamp!) and the laces are cleverly coloured fabric cables! This would be fun in a teenager’s room for sure.
“Pock it” by Norwegian design student Jeanette Stavik Kjosnes. Something fun on your wall; plywood pockets with brightly hues inside which bounce light back onto the wall! Jeanettesk.com
The yearly Form+1 award for the best product of the year was this year given to Thomas Bernstrand for the shelf “Ivy” produced by Swedese. It consists of five stackable components that can be arranged in 3 different ways, straight up, leaning to one side or alternating. It is fun with the leaning but I wonder if with time I would go crazy with it wanting to put it up straight!
I love when I fall upon new vintage designers I’ve never heard of before. Thanks to the Danish company Gubi who have reissued these wonderful lamps “Grasshopper” by the Swedish/American designer Greta Magnusson Grossman from the 1950’s. I will certainly come back and blog about her she has some great looking lamps.
How interesting isn’t this piece? Asa Karneris a design student who researchers in ecological, functional and folk art design. This chair is made out of silk threads so transparency and weightlessness is in focus. The light through the threads must create some interesting shadow plays.
I just love the simpleness of these trolleys “Darjeeling” by Anna Kraitz.
For you indoor lounging this is perfect and you can sit under the shadow of the palm tree! by the French designer Jean-Marie Massaud for Offecct
The “Grip vase” by the Indian/Dutch designer Satyendra Pakhale did this fun table with an integrated vase.
Let’s end this fair with something really conceptional this fantastic table by the Swedish design group TB&Ajakay It was accompanied by the following text “[This is] a table that exquisitely shows that however we are forced down, held down, we carry on, and resistance is contagious. Short stories will be written, novels and pamphlets. In the shade of the laminates, which roll themselves up and become tree once again, bills will be paid with a smile. Good for Sweden too!”
