I suppose as a furniture designer at the end of the day you get kind of bored making another new sofa, chair or whatever on the market. You want to challenge yourself and your public and I would say that these pieces certainly have. They are pushing the limit, is it a piece of furniture or an art statement? Well I suppose it is really up to us as a consumer to decide, however, I find the idea of a piece of furniture as an art statement in your home quite intriguing.
The Pylon chair by the English designer Tom Dixon. He dropped out of art school to take a welding course and that has led him far in the design world. An armchair in iron wire. Very futuristic and fragile looking. Doesn’t it look great though beside this mid-century table?
This is really what I like, when you clash something really extreme modern in a very classical context. The Favela chair by the great Brazilian duo designers the Campana brothers. Almost all they do have this very conceptual thinking about their design. This chair in production is completely assembled by hand, every piece is randomly nailed in together. To symbolize the favelas; the poor outskirts of the big cities in Brazil.
The Rose chair also the Campana Brothers. A little bit kitch but why shouldn’t we allow us a little bit of that in our home? I am all for it.
The Aguape chair another of the Campana brothers interesting design. It is named after a Brazilian water lily. The chair consist out of hundreds of laser cut leather petals. A flower in your home that will never die………..
The felt chair by the Australian designer Marc Newson, (actually come to think about it I don’t think I can come up with another name of an Australian designer! can you??). It’s what we call a modern classic from 1989! From looking at it you can kind of understand that he has also designed for the car industry. This is a wonderful piece of shell turned into a seating and observe it has only one leg! This one is made out of fiberglass but you can have it in leather, felt you name it.
Very thoughtful collection of interesting pieces, some old and some new. I especially liked the pylon chair by Tom Dixon and I liked the mid century table sitting beside it.
I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
The crux of your writing while appearing reasonable in the beginning, did not really work very well with me personally after some time. Somewhere throughout the sentences you managed to make me a believer unfortunately just for a while. I however have got a problem with your jumps in assumptions and you would do well to fill in all those gaps. When you can accomplish that, I will undoubtedly be fascinated.
fantastic publish, very informative. I ponder why the other specialists
of this sector do not understand this. You
must proceed your writing. I’m confident, you have a great readers’ base already!
