Origami (Japanese Kami-paper and Ori-fold) as we all know this beautiful Japanese art of folding paper started out in the 17th century. You can do what you want with the paper but there is one rule No glue allowed! It has come back lately and in every kid store you can buy some beautiful papers to make all kinds of sculptures, in fact my kids received an Origami set for Christmas that they are having fun with and sometimes frustration I must admit! It’s no easy task!
It’s also an artform designers get their inspiration from and when the pleats are transformed into other materials it can look like this

I think designers turn to this art form for its very geometric and unconventional result of the folding. The Polish designer Jakob Piotr Kalinowski folded this stool “ORI”.
The British designer George Rice has designed this “2d3d” table for the English furniture firm Formtank. Very futuristic looking.
You can do your own Origami if you go for this lamp by Thomas Hick . It comes in a flat sheet of metal and you fold it as you wish! Gives a very intimate light on a table.
Fromental is a UK based company who does gorgeous silk wall coverings with very skillful artists in China. This origami wallpaper is painted and embroidered by hand a trompe l’oeil of origami folds.
